Role Of Dumbledore In Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince is the sixth part of the charismatic and magical Harry Potter series. The book was released on the 25th of July 2005. Now the fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the movie on 15th July 2009.

Unlike the first and the second part, the character of Professor Dumbledore is being played by Michael Gambon. He has been playing Dumbledore's character since the death of former Dumbledore actor, Richard Harris in 2002.

Dumbledore has always been one of the main characters of every Harry Potter stories. He is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He has always been a well-wisher of Harry and a mentor to him. Dumbledore was the one who decided to let the Dursleys take care of Harry. He said it's the only place where he could stay safe from Voldemort.

He is also regarded as one of the most successful wizards. He was the only person who Lord Voldemort feared to confront. Throughout Harry's years at Hogwarts, Dumbledore has acted as a protector and teacher of Harry. He taught him about his past, his parents and Voldemort.

In the sixth part, Dumbledore tells Harry to learn about Voldemort as it is of vast importance to know about him, so that he may be prepared to face the future events. Dumbledore holds regular meetings with Harry in his office to teach him about Voldemort's past and Horcruxes that he used to gain immortality. Also, Harry tried to warn Dumbledore about the suspicious activities of his classmate, Draco Malfoy. However, Dumbledore refused to take any action against him and claimed that he knew more about what was going on.

Since they were looking for the Horcruxes that Voldemort had hidden, they set out for a cave where Dumbledore believes that a Horcrux is present. In the cave, however, Dumbledore drinks a potion contained in the Horcrux's container and starts screaming with pain and agony, as if enduring mental and physical torture. He then signals Harry for water. He goes to the nearby lake to fetch water where the Inferi in the lake try to drown him. However, Dumbledore suddenly recovers from his ill position and saves Harry from the dreadful lake creatures.

When they made their way back to the Hogwarts Astronomy tower, Dumbledore put a body-binding curse on Harry and hid him under his invisibility cloak. Then Draco arrives at the scene in an attempt to kill Dumbledore as ordered by Voldemort, but couldn't do it himself. At that moment, the other Death Eaters enter the tower. They try to convince Draco to carry out his orders, but he just couldn't. Consequently, Snape shows up and carries out the murder himself. Dumbledore's death was of immense grief to Harry as he was deeply attached to him. It also sparked feelings of intense hatred and vengeance in him against Dumbledore's killers.

The characters like Dumbledore brought the warm and homely feelings in the story. The movie is sure to bring tears in many eyes watching it, given the excellent talent and skill possessed by the actors.
